US President Trump has declared he is increasing import taxes on products brought in from Canada after the region of Ontario ran an anti-tariff ad including former President Reagan.

In a social media post on Saturday, Trump labeled the commercial a "deception" and condemned Canadian authorities for not pulling it before the baseball championship.

"Because of their serious falsification of the reality, and hostile act, I am hiking the duty on Canada by ten percent over and above what they are paying now," Trump posted.

After Trump on Thursday pulled out of commercial discussions with Canadian officials, the Ontario's leader announced he would pull the commercial.

The Province Reaction

Ontario Leader Doug Ford said on last Friday that he would pause his territory's anti-import tax commercial series in the US, telling journalists that he made the decision after talks with PM Mark Carney "to ensure commercial discussions can restart".

He added it would remain broadcast during the weekend, during contests for the World Series, which features the Toronto team facing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Economic Context

The Canadian nation is the exclusive G7 state that has not achieved a agreement with the United States since Donald Trump commenced attempting to levy high tariffs on items from major commercial allies.

The America has already imposed a thirty-five percent tax on each Canada's items - though most are free under an current commercial pact. It has also imposed industry-specific levies on Canada's goods, featuring a 50% levy on metals and 25% on vehicles.

In his update, published while he was traveling to Malaysia, Trump seemed to say he was including an additional 10% to these duties.

75% of Canada's exports are sold to the America, and the province is home to the bulk of Canada's car production.

Ronald Reagan Ad Particulars

The commercial, which was paid for by the provincial government, references late President Reagan, a conservative icon and figure of American conservatism, saying import taxes "damage every American".

The video uses clips from a 1987-era broadcast that addressed foreign trade.

The Reagan Foundation, which is tasked with maintaining the former president's legacy, had criticized the advertisement for using "edited" audio and video and claimed it falsified the former president's speech. It also said the Ontario authorities had not requested authorization to use it.

Current Conflicts

In his message on social media on the weekend, Trump said that the advertisement should have been taken down earlier.

"Their Commercial was to be removed RIGHT AWAY, but they allowed it to air recently during the World Series, knowing that it was a DECEPTION," Trump stated, while traveling to Asia.

Doug Ford had previously pledged to broadcast the Ronald Reagan advert in each Republican-led district in the US.

The two Trump and Carney will be attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in Malaysia, but Trump informed reporters joining him on the presidential plane that he does not have any "plan" of speaking with his Canadian PM during the journey.

In his message, the President additionally alleged Canada of seeking to affect an future Supreme Court lawsuit which could terminate his whole tax system.

The case, to be heard by the American judiciary in the coming weeks, will rule on whether the duties are constitutional.

On Thursday, Donald Trump further condemned, stating that the advert was created to "meddle" with "the most significant legal case"

World Series Connection

The Reagan commercial is not the sole way that the province – base of the Toronto Blue Jays – is using the MLB finals as a stage to condemn Trump's duties.

In a clip published on Friday, the Premier and Governor Newsom playfully placed wagers about which club would win the championship.

Each official consistently joked about duties in the video, with Ford vowing to deliver Gavin Newsom a container of Canadian syrup if the LA Dodgers triumph.

"The tariff might charge me a higher price at the crossing these days, but it'll be worth it," Ford said.

In answer, Governor Newsom asked Doug Ford to resume permitting American-produced alcohol to be available in Ontario beverage outlets, and promised to deliver "our championship-worthy grape drink" if the Blue Jays win.

They ended their dialogue each stating: "Cheers to a great MLB finals, and a tariff-free relationship between the region and California."
