Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Chief Executive Departs After Shift Towards Fried Chicken.

The head of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the United Kingdom might have hit maximum pizza demand while broadening the company into fried chicken has been ousted after disagreements with its governing body.

Leadership Transition

The former CEO is leaving after a brief tenure in charge, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the company's chief operating officer, Frampton, while Domino's searches for a long-term chief.

Rennie, who served at Domino's for more than two decades, had aimed to redirect Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, commenting earlier this month there was not “massive growth” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed chicken was the most rapidly expanding protein in the globe.

Board Friction

It is understood that there was friction between Rennie and the directors over his strategy and management style, although Domino's official statement said he was leaving “by mutual agreement”.

New Product Introduction

In the autumn, Domino's unveiled its poultry offering – which Rennie referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the organization – and is testing it in select stores in the North West region and the province.

While the business is still going to roll it out across its nearly 1,400 branches in 2026 as intended, it views fried chicken as an addition to its core pizza business.

Board Comment

The Domino's chair, the company chairman, said: “We are confident that there are a range of possibilities to enhance value and value creation in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on finding the right chief executive to oversee the systematic rollout of that expansion plan.”

Industry Difficulties

In the latest update, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said orders fell by 1.5 percent in the latest quarter. In August, it alerted that the takeaway market had “grown more challenging” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the lead-up to the budget and higher payroll outlays for weaker-than-expected sales and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Another major chain revealed the shutting of multiple locations a recently, after the company behind its British operations fell into administration.

Wellness Efforts

Adapting to market shifts towards healthier eating, the company has introduced light items, such as its light base range of pizzas below 400 kcal as well as meat-free and allergy-friendly pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has over 2,300 kcal. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171, while a personal has under 1,000 calories.

Interim Management

Frampton has been with the company since the recent past, and previously worked for the gambling company William Hill. It is thought that she prefers not to take on the CEO position on a full-time basis.

Frampton stated: “The company has a multiple ongoing expansion and performance initiatives that we will be focused on implementing at a rapid rate.”

She added these involved further work on the organization's procurement system and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

The pizza chain is also without a permanent CFO until March 16, when Andy Andrea starts from the drinks company a well-known firm. In the meantime, Snow is interim finance chief.
