Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to voice opinions regarding the Trump government, worried it could intensify divisive discussions and increase separation throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes the Actress
During a discussion, she commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on voter decisions.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has previously been open about voting for both conservative and liberal candidates in past elections. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was opposing her own rights as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
In 2015, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election would be “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “because I believe she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to defend women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
The star was joined by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the voting intentions was emphasized by his election win.
“Another four years appears changed,” noted she about his administration. “Because he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is discussing the drama, the filmmaker’s project in which she stars as a young mom who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. Speaking at a interview session for the movie in Venice, the star addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the conversations of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence aimed to shift frustration about the issue to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
The actor, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her performance in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in Die, My Love. Although the director has rejected the narrative being understood as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, she said that she identified with elements of her character’s journey after the delivery of her second son, shortly after shooting ended.
“There was concern for my son,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I began using a drug called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Career Moments
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the film while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she remarked, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
